The
Foundation was incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957
on the 9th day of August 1990. It was originally named the Ashburton
Licensing Trust Charitable Foundation and then changed to the Ashburton
Trust Charitable Foundation on the 2nd day of December 2002.
The
Foundation’s licence to operate gaming machines states that
Gaming machine profits remaining after the deduction of expenses,
lawfully incurred and necessary to the Society’s gaming machine
operations, shall be applied to the following authorised purpose(s): |
Net proceeds from gaming machines will be distributed
to organisations domiciled and/or working in the Ashburton
Licensing Trust territory as defined in the schedule of
the Sale of Liquor Act 1989, and to Health/Welfare organisations
from outside the said territory which may directly assist
residents from within the Trust's district. The areas
of authorised purpose of these organisation to be as follows:

Grants
to amateur sports teams, clubs and associations competing
in recognised competitions and tournaments. The sports
teams and clubs to be formally established and/or legally
constituted. Grants issued for actual and reasonable
travel expenses for groups participating in tournament
with kindred groups, sports equipment, playing uniforms
and ground hire. Players and/or teams competing on a
professional basis will not qualify for a grant.

Grants
for educational advancement to schools or other educational
institutes or bodies for equipment purchase or the development
of better student amenities not covered by government
funding.

Grants
for the establishment of student scholarships, bursaries
or assistance to individual students in their general
education advancement or for the furthering of academic
specialisations, provided such students are selected
in a fair and open manner after public advertising.

Grants
to registered charitable organisation such as plunket,
life education etc.

Grants
to organisations working in the field of the welfare
of aged person, welfare assistance for people in need
and the provision of social amenities.

Grants
to organisations for the provision of community facilities.

Grants
to organisations working in the field of beneficial
activities by youths and young persons.
-
Grants
to organisations in amateur theatre or cultural group
activities.
-
Grants
to clubs promotion, controlling and conducting race
meetings under the Racing Act 2003 including the payment
of stakes.

Grants
shall not be issued to any party which result in commercial
advantage either directly or indirectly to any individual
or business organisation.

The Trustees at their annual review of policies
undertook a review of the policies, methods and systems it uses
for considering the distribution of net proceeds and resolved
to remain with the status quo.
